“We have thoroughly enjoyed staying at
Courfontaine on more than one occasion and couldn’t wish for a more peaceful and pleasant place to stay. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. There is nothing more relaxing in
the summer than enjoying a glass or two of wine in the back garden and listening to nothing but the sound of birdsong or in the cooler months in front of the wood burner – bliss. Duncan was a
brilliant host, making sure that we were comfortable in the cottage and keeping us well informed of what was going on in the surrounding areas. We wouldn’t hesitate to return”.
The gite itself is very spacious and comfortable. It is well-equipped with
all reasonable needs for two people on holiday. Bed linen and towels provided were all of good quality. We had no need to use the fire, but there is a plentiful supply of wood should you need to do
so.
This is a lovely area in which to stay, if you want to be off the tourist trail
and just in rural France - the bonus is that it so close to the channel ports and does not require hours of driving or overnight stops. The countryside around is very attractive, and the roads
are never busy, the walk around the local lake is very pleasant. There are several beautiful villages and towns not too far away, great to just wander around and enjoy lunch or a drink at a
pavement cafe. PB & SB
Our stay at Courfontaine was a wonderful experience and a glimpse into beautiful rural France. Duncan was a great host and did his
best to cater to all our needs. The house is amazing, I was impressed by its thick stone walls and all the traces of its former inhabitants during its 200 years history. This is a place I would

The area of La Mayenne truly is rural France within easy reach of the coastal ports, giving a very
manageable journey from the UK. Courfontaine is an authentic, French farmhouse with everything we needed for a comfortable stay and provided the peace and quiet we were seeking after a busy summer.
Although the weather was cooler than expected for September, we did have a couple of barbeques in the garden and Duncan kept us well stocked with plenty of dry logs for the wood burner in the
evenings – lovely.
The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking. There are way-marked trails directly from the
farmhouse, taking in the rolling collines and woodland. A short drive away, there is excellent walking through the Fôret de Sillé and Sillé Plage. There is also plenty to see and visit in the small
towns and villages nearby. We went to historic Jublain, St Suzanne and also St Céneri in the Alpes Mancelles where we were delighted to be part of a medieval re-enactment taking place over the
weekend.
Duncan was a very considerate and attentive host and gave us useful information on the area,
particularly on the beautiful Basilica in Evron. We will definitely consider returning to Courfontaine for a future holiday.
Wow, what a gite
Our experience at Courfontaine was like an oasis of perfection. Spotless, peaceful, unspoilt and beautifully appointed with the most
amazing private garden just for us. We wanted to have a complete and utter rest following a hectic of year and this was achieved immediately. Thanks to the owners, so
helpful and kind when we wanted advice but always respecting our own privacy.
Courfonatine is by far the best we have ever stayed in. Downside to our holiday was that it came to an end!
Can't wait for our next visit.
"The Perfect French Getaway"
Courfontaine is the perfect place for a peaceful retreat. The accomodation is in excellent condition, is spacious and
is full of character. My partner and I really felt that we were staying in a home away from home which meant that as soon as we arrived we instantly relaxed.
Its location is just superb, with stuning scenery on your doorstep and great access to some of the most delightful places in this region of France. We enjoyed going for walks, biking,
relaxing in the garden and at the beach down at the lake and visiting some really beautiful french villages and towns - all within really close proximity to the farmhouse.
The owners are extremely welcoming, helpful and provided some really great recommendations of what to see and do. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a that
charming french getaway.

Just returned from a week at Courfontaine. It was a last minute booking for a get away from it all vacation. The area is beautiful with walks on
the doorstep, picturesque villages and a village restaurant a must to experience.
The house was spacious and very comfortable with a pretty secluded garden to enjoy the sunshine and a wood burning stove to relax by. The owners were helpful
and informative. We felt so comfortable.

"What a really special place"
After several years of lovely holidays in France, we thought we had seen it all it has to offer but this area is delight - absolutely
unspoilt. There are wonderful, peaceful walks through the National Forest - the whole area seems alive with nature.
We have stayed in many lovely properties but none compare to Courfontaine. A fairytale place with the most secluded, peaceful garden with stunning
views Inside, the spacious farmhouse is beautifully and comfortably furnished. The photos on the web site certainly don't do it justice.
We spent a wonderful few days there and will definately be telling our family and friends about Courfontaine. In fact, we're returning, next
year !!

"Lovely rural retreat"
Courfontaine is the perfect rural peaceful retreat, which is full of character. Located just outside a small village with lovely
scenery on the doorstep and great access to other local places of interest, including beautiful villages and towns. We enjoyed days out sightseeing, walking and relaxing evenings in front of the log
burning fire. The garden is secluded with lovely countryside views.
The owners are helpful, attentive and extremely welcoming, however not invasive. We stayed with our small dog who was also made very welcome. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property
to anyone who is looking for a rural french
getaway.

"Rural French Idyll"
If your idea of a French getaway is peaceful, green countryside with a smattering of medieval towns & villages, then look no further !
The house does not disappoint, it's tastefully decorated and furnished. Own transport is essential, but lots to interest within 30 mile radius. From Forests & Lakes on the doorstep to
quintessential picturesque villages & towns.
It never fails to surprise that the beautiful French countryside appears virtually deserted ! though it was September ! (still hot in the day, though we did enjoy a log fire in the
evening)
This part of the countryside does not cater for Non-stop tourist style refreshments, restaurants usually have set opening times, though the larger towns are well catered. There are good local
Supermarkets & street markets however in nearby towns so no shortage of local 'goodies'.
There in much information within the house to plan excursions out, and walks from the cottage door. Duncan is the perfect host, with the right combination of useful information, and welcoming
attitude.
The restaurant in the village offers fabulous fayre, cooked in a Wood burning oven, no choice but all the better for that !
Le Mans was extremely interesting with it's Medieval & modern centers, something for everyone here. Other nearby towns & villages, Sille/ Leval/St Suzanne/ Evron/ Fresnay - all a
delight.
